Anson has been playing chess for over a year now. He and Glen played quite a few games on Thanksgiving, and I thought I might want to learn so I could have a good excuse to sit and play all day. Honestly, has anyone been taught how to play chess by a four year old before? It is quite a humbling and high energy experience. My teacher, Anson, first had me read about the game in a book, then sat down with me at the computer to play. Every time I went to move a piece I would hear a panicky voice telling me all of the reasons not to do it. I was still trying to figure out which pieces were which and how they moved. Glen was in the background telling me to listen to Anson, but I was still three steps behind what Anson was telling me. How am I ever going to keep up with this boy? I suppose I could accept the fact that my four year old is already ahead of me in many ways. That's OK, he still needs help putting on his socks.
