Anson has started getting out of bed several times after we put him down. It's not like you can effectively do a "time out" if they get out of bed, because then they have accomplished their task of staying out of bed. Last night Glen and I were thinking of different consequences we could give Anson if he got out of bed again. Finally, after about the tenth time we had put him back in bed, it was time to have a consequence chat with him. I asked him which consequence he thought would be appropriate, losing his socks (he NEEDS socks before sleeping), no bed time stories the next day, or maybe losing a pillow or blanket. He looked at me thoughtfully and said, "I think I should stay in bed. Thanks for teaching me about consequences." That was the end of that. I was pleasantly surprised with how well our chat went, and he stayed in bed. We'll see how tonight goes.

What a fun story, and what a cool kid to catch on to what his mom was trying to do for him! It is almost as though he hadn't realized beforehand that getting out of bed was a problem.
