Move to Maryland

The Cooks are alive, well, and warm. It was the longest month of my life. We spent the week before we left San Diego in a hotel, then hurried here to Maryland to find a home. Glen started check-in stuff right away, and the children and I tried not to go insane in a hotel for two weeks. Did I mention our van was being shipped out, and it took the government vehicle shipping people a month to get it here. Funny that when we finally did get in touch with the people shipping our van out, two weeks after we dropped it off, it was still sitting in San Diego. Pardon me? If you can avoid government vehicle shipping, do it at all costs. I was feeling pretty trapped in a hotel with energetic, adjusting, no nap-taking children. The neurology department decided to really break Glen in at work with a thirty hour shift every third day. We were doing some 90 plus hour work weeks. Also, if you were wondering if Hiram is wearing one of those very sad looking harnesses, yes. Unfortunately our stroller got left in the van, and that was the best way to keep Hiram from getting lost. He actually thinks it's really cool.

The great news is that we found a lovely home in a peaceful neighborhood, and the neighbors are very welcoming. We've had plenty of brownies to get me through these interesting times. Mom and Dad Higginson came to the rescue. I was in tears with gratitude when they showed up with their sleeves pulled up, ready to work. They did their magic, and helped us get set up here. We even have a guest bedroom for visitors (hint hint). I would add two interesting details. We had an earthquake (yes, here in Maryland) our second night here. Do they have earthquakes in Maryland? I guess so. Then we had a large storm that knocked out power all over the place for days. Time to get prepared. Oh! one more funny thing. We've caught three frogs in our house. The owners said the never saw one frog. Better frogs than rats.

Well, I am dying to make a trip up to visit my family and of course when I do I am going to come see you too. Plus, I will have my baby with me...since I'm eight months pregnant now it will be just a little why before I get there!

Oh, and did I tell you they are opening a Cafe Rio in the DC area? So exciting. What neighborhood are you in? I just can't wait to see you!

Hi Krista! It's nice to know you're there and well. I've thought about you. I was just with Sarah and it was nice. Of course it made me think of you. I also had a short facebook convo with Kara. I love your family. Sarah told me what a businessman your dad is now and I had to look it up for myself. Good for him. I can't think of a more deserving family. I sure love you. Your family is really sweet. Love, Angie

I am finally making my way to the blogging world and catching myself up on all my friends busy lives! WOW! What a trip! I don't think I would be able to stand all the hotel living, my kids would of thought it great fun! We have a leash too, my older two would stop and not move an inch with it on, but my Lily girl just keeps going like it's not there :( What does your husband do anyway? I would love to go to Maryland someday, maybe I'll have to work it out one of these days. Oh, and my blog is somewhat up to date now.
