August Letter

Glen is going to be writing family letters. I will be adding them to the blog for family history purposes. This is from a few months ago. Hopefully a new one will be coming soon.

01 August 2011

Greetings! We hope this letter finds you happy and peaceful. We have had an active summer and there is no end in sight to the adventures.

Anson is getting ready to begin his first academic year. He is excited to focus on studying ancient history and continuing to work on mathematics. He is currently multiplying double-digit numbers and has just started working on long division. Glen has enjoyed working to put together a personalized home school curriculum with Anson. He continues to be a voracious reader, and is right now enjoying Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator by Roald Dahl, having recently finished Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Hiram continues to be our powerhouse boy. He builds great structures with his Lincoln logs and with his wooden train set. He has great ambitions – right now he frequently talks about wanting a kayak and lifejacket, bagpipes, and a wooden recorder. Hiram, who has also always enjoyed reading, is now beginning to read on his own and is excited about the new doors this opens up to him.

Both boys are doing Tae Kwon Do. They attend classes twice a week. They have also started swimming lessons. It has been very fun to see them more comfortable in the water and to have them smile as they swim down to the bottom of the pool, with help, to play with dad in the deep water (it’s only 4 ½ feet deep).

Charlotte is speaking in sentences now and continues to be a delightful, smile-bearing champion of a girl. She put her own shoes on by herself a few days ago and has started using the big girl potty.

Krista has been staying very busy teaching and nurturing our three little ones. She is serving as a Relief Society instructor in our ward and is also getting ready to run a Ragnar Relay in September.

Krista and the children have particularly enjoyed visiting the grounds of the Washington, D.C. temple together. It has been fun to watch the joy that naturally comes from their pure hearts as they seem to resonate with the spirit of that holy house.

Glen has completed his second year of residency and, beginning July 1st, officially became a senior resident within his program. As such, he assumes a more supervisory role over the “younger” residents and, fortunately, has a few more evenings at home. Krista and the kids threw a great 30th birthday party for him last week. There was a delicious cheese cake complete, of course, with a pirate flag.

We also celebrated the arrival of the 22nd and 23rd of our nephews and nieces. We are happy you are here, Jackson and Sophie! Numbers 24 through 26 will be arriving in the next few weeks to months.

We love you all and want you to know that we are happy. We want you to know that we have testimonies of our Lord Jesus Christ, that he is our Redeemer and that he loves each of us.

Yours faithfully,
Glen and Krista

p.s. Krista’s email did recently get hacked. She has a new address: krista.a.cook@gmail.com .
