Joy in the Journey

In our recent General Conference, President Uchtdorf said, "Sometimes in life we become so focused on the finish line that we fail to find joy in the journey. I don’t go cycling with my wife because I’m excited about finishing. I go because the experience of being with her is sweet and enjoyable. Doesn’t it seem foolish to spoil sweet and joyful experiences because we are constantly anticipating the moment when they will end?" Last week we had planned to spend Glen's day off together with our children. We were going to take the metro downtown and go to some museums. We never made it. We set off, and got to practice finding joy in the journey rather than the destination. I was glad to be with my family. The children were genuinely happy to be riding on the metro, and it was fun to see how they brought joy to others. I counted the trip a success. There were a few reasons we never made it to the museums. The metro stopped running for a period of time, we had a child that needed to find a restroom (and the one at the station was not in use), and we were witnesses to a crime that ended up involving the police. Glen was willing to help out a lot. Here are a few pictures from the Metro. Maybe we'll have some cool museum pictures another time. Watching Glen chase a robber was exciting too. I felt confident that he would keep himself safe.
