The Race

Sometimes we are passing people in the race, and sometimes they are passing us. I've decided it doesn't matter. Anson wanted to run another 5K, so we arranged for him to do that. Glen is currently training for a marathon, and had planned a 20 mile run for the same day. He decided he could run to the beginning of the race, and then finish his last few miles with Anson. I didn't want to miss out on the fun. I have been running a bit during this pregnancy. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I went ahead and signed up for the race, knowing I may be calling for a pick up at some point. I also knew that my six year old son would be outpacing me. It was nice to meet an older woman at the beginning of the race with a shirt that said "I may not be going fast, but I'm still going." She mentioned she hadn't seen a lot of old people like her running that morning, and I said "Don't worry, I don't see a lot of pregnant people running either." We saw each other throughout the race, and it was fun to cheer her on. As people passed me, I thought of how during one of my Ragnar runs last year someone said "Why are you running so fast at 4:00 in the morning?" It was fun to run fast and pass people, that's why. Well this time, I was not the passer. Isn't that life in so many ways. It doesn't matter if you are passing or being passed. Are you in the race? We can cheer each other on. So yes, my husband ran the race course two times, after his 13 or so previous miles. My six year old son beat me by more than five minutes. I still felt good about my 33 1/2 week pregnant run. I endured the constant head on my bladder, and focused hard on not tearing my stomach muscles. I was also grateful for some life lessons. By the way, I did not run in the St. George Marathon. That is Glen's shirt. None of mine fit me :). At least I looked cool with a marathon shirt on.
